- Sensei Les Clarke (Chief Instructor)

Etiquette is very important in Karate, and whilst in the Dojo the following rules should always be followed.

  1. Always bow ( REI ) upon entering or leaving the dojo.
  2. Always bow to a senior grade upon receiving instruction.
  3. When lining up at the start of a class, ensure that you are behind a senior grade, ie never line up in front of someone who is senior grade to you.
  4. When bowing to the sensei of a class at the start or finish of a lesson, never finish your bow before the sensei.
  5. When facing an opponent in the dojo, always show each other respect by bowing at the start of combat and at completion.

As laid down by Master Gichin Funakoshi:

  1. Refrain from impetuous and violent behaviour.
  2. Respect propriety.
  3. Cultivate the spirit of perseverance.
  4. Be faithful and sincere.
  5. Exert oneself in the perfection of character.
